I have just completed my third week here at Guru and I have never known a more enjoyable yet challenging place to work.
The first thing that struck me when I arrived was the relaxed yet hardworking atmosphere; there is always time for a laugh but if there is work to be done it gets top priority!
After a week of learning the various systems and the ins and outs of the service I was ready to hit the phones, I could not imagine a service better received by our clients – it really is a brilliant service to sell.
I feel my comments and suggestions are taken into account and I enjoy being involved in the entire process from generating leads to converting a sale. It is a lot of work and requires good organisational skills but very rewarding when I see a happy customer utilising our service.
There is undoubtedly a lot more to learn, with such a comprehensive solution to sell; however I feel I have come a long way and look forward to my next 3 weeks and more!

Our advert in the Guardian for a Prime Minister caused quite a stir earlier this month, so much so that we were forced to remove it from their online pages. Shame, as at one point the ad was getting 100 views per minute.
Read the best of the applications and make your decision on who should get the top job…

Just in case you hadn’t realised, our advert on the Guardian for a Prime Minister was an April Fools prank. We did get two applications, however in our opinion neither had the required backgrounds to mount a serious bid for the top job.

See the advert live on the Guardian Jobs website here: http://www.bit.ly/b9W1iK

We have another big congrats to send out, this time to our MD Phil Rands who on the 25th of Feb welcomed into the world Carmina, born @14:21 and weighing in at 7lbs 6oz. Returning to work this week the office has been filled with the Directors swapping new baby tips.
Ahhhh what a peaceful looking thing, although we have been told she isn’t always this quiet.

Phil and Cherrie, what a diamond!

This week we turned 8! And we think we have come a pretty long way since our humble beginnings back in 2002 when CVs were kept in boxes and online recruitment was all still a bit new. Old Skool agencies are now web 2.0 social recruiting moguls. How things change!

It was this time last week that we launched our internship programme and in just seven days we welcome Sebastian a keen Computer Science graduate with a year in industry.

Over the next 3-6 months Seb will be working within a small team on an array of interesting web projects utilising PHP, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript (suits not compulsory and not a tea making or sandwich fetching duty in sight!).  Say hi…

The Generation Y graduates of 2010 will face a stark reality check this year when entering the employment market.

For the first time since 2003 graduate vacancies decreased in 2009 (AGR) and with things likely to continue along the same lines into 2010 it makes worrying reading for the class of 2009/10.

A big congrats and well done to Richard Hamilton our Marketing Director who returned to the rat race this week after welcoming to the world his first born Humphrey. Ahhhh isn’t he cute, the looks and substantial locks clearly inherited from the mother’s side.

Well done to both Mummy and Daddy for this one!

It appears that 2010 is going to be the year for recovery. Things are predicted to pick up during the first half of this year and according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) unemployment will peak in the summer and then fall by 250,000 in the final 2 quarters. Good signs.
The CIPD also predicts that 40% of those good people you’ve retained throughout the downturn will be looking to move as the recruitment market picks up, so remember to stay on top of your staff retention, keep employees well rewarded, interested and challenged.
